Policies
The following are policies and guidelines for a smooth and beneficial participation experience in ASL Pros classes, courses, and events:
To ensure the best learning environment for sign language classes, please follow these guidelines when participating:
🕒 Be on Time
Class begins promptly at the scheduled start time and is intended to end promptly at the scheduled end time. Please join the Zoom session prior to the start time. Sometimes Zoom requires an update and a reboot, and late arrivals may miss key information.
🐤⏰ Early Arrival is Strongly Recommended
We encourage participants to join up to 15 minutes before the scheduled class start time for purposes of engaging in greetings and visual connection before class instruction begins. *Arriving early is especially important as engagement prior to instruction is typically a cultural norm in visual languages.
📍 Choose a Quiet Space
Participate from a quiet, distraction-free environment with minimal background noise and movement.
💻 Proper Setup
It is recommended that you sit at a desk or table to maintain focus and engagement. Please do not join the session while driving, or physically in motion (as this can be visually disturbing). If you must join the session from your car as a passenger, or from a public space (ie a coffee shop) please communicate in advance with your Instructor.
🎥 Video On
Cameras must be on to participate. Ensure you are well-lit with no bright light sources behind you, which can make it difficult for the instructor to see your facial expressions and signs.
🚫 No Eating
Please refrain from chowing down on a meal during the session given the very nature of the class requires your hands (and face) to be available and engaged.
*We understand everyone has extenuating circumstances sometimes. If you must eat during the session, please turn your camera off briefly. Keep in communication with your instructor if you plan to go off camera.
Following these recommendations will help create an effective and engaging ASL learning experience for all participants.
Structures for the Protection of Minors
All course instructors with minors enrolled in their courses, classes, or programs must undergo a background check. Safe online practices for participants under 18 are established and strictly enforced. A parent or guardian must complete the registration for all participants, and all communication must go through them.
Multiple minors may join the remote Sign Language Class Zoom session at no additional cost, provided they connect from a single device. Participation is limited to children aged 17 and younger.
To protect minors’ privacy, no photos, screenshots, or recordings are permitted. Additionally, no contact details or personally identifiable information may be shared during the ASL class Zoom session.
By registering for the ASL Aces Course with ASL Pros, you acknowledge and agree to comply with these guidelines to ensure a safe learning environment for minors.
